Canadian Patient Experiences Reporting System metadata
Overview
The Canadian Patient Experiences Reporting System (CPERS) collects standardized patient experience information from participating hospitals across Canada, starting with acute inpatient care. Information from CPERS provides insight into patients’ perspectives on the health services they received. This information is used to inform and improve patient-centred care and patient outcomes.
CPERS receives data about patient experiences from hospitals or jurisdictions that administer the Canadian Patient Experiences Survey on Inpatient Care (CPES-IC).
Data source
CPERS is populated with CPES-IC results from participating acute care inpatient hospitals across Canada.
Data coverage
ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨collaborates with participating jurisdictions to support CPES-IC implementation and data submission to CPERS.
The CPES-IC Procedure Manual (PDF) provides standards for administering the survey, including details on the target patient population and inclusion criteria for the survey.
Data availability
Jurisdictions have implemented the CPES-IC in a staged approach. CPERS has received survey data since 2014–2015.
Data availability (for applicable jurisdictions) is as follows:

Data submission
ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨develops standards and specifications to support the collection and submission of data. Jurisdictions can submit the data to ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨themselves or use a computer software product or solution developed by a health information software vendor. ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨extends licences to access and use this information in order to develop computer software products that support data collection and submission. Software vendors must first be licensed by ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨and then have their software products successfully pass CIHI’s testing requirements in order for their software products to be used to collect and submit data to CIHI.
