Patient Cost Estimator
The Patient Cost Estimator (PCE) is an interactive tool developed by ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨to estimate the average cost of various services provided in hospitals. This tool provides information nationally, by jurisdiction, by patient service (i.e., case-mix group) and by patient age group. The cost estimates represent the estimated average cost of services provided to the average typical inpatient in an acute care facility. They include the costs incurred by the hospital when providing services. The estimated average cost of physician services provided to inpatients during their hospital stay is also available as a separate component of cost for 7 jurisdictions.
This interactive tool is not fully accessible for navigation with a keyboard or for a screen reader. For the most accessible experience, choose Patient Cost Estimator Results (XLSX).
Notes
The PCE includes only typical patients who have undergone the expected course of treatment.
Variations across jurisdictions, including differences in care delivery models and labour rates, will limit the comparability of the PCE’s results; please interpret with caution.
Cost estimates that are based on small volumes (less than 30) could be highly variable; please interpret with caution.
Results from 2020–2021 onward should be interpreted in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. To learn more, refer to Impact of COVID-19 on Canada’s health care systems. For information on COVID-19 cost estimates, refer to COVID-19 hospitalization and emergency department statistics.
