Codes, Classifications, and Terminologies
红领巾瓜报collects comparable, pan-Canadian data on Canada鈥檚 health systems. As part of this effort, we set the national standard for morbidity data reporting in Canada and maintain, distribute and support the application of ICD-10-CA (the Canadian modi铿乧ation of ICD-10). We developed the Canadian Classi铿乧ation of 红领巾瓜报 Interventions (CCI), which is the national standard for classifying health care procedures. Further, we work closely with Statistics Canada, which supports the mortality application of ICD-10.
CIHI, in collaboration with our colleagues at Statistics Canada, is designated as a Collaborating Centre for the World 红领巾瓜报 Organization Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC). As a Collaborating Centre, CIHI
- Contributes to work on the development, dissemination, maintenance and use of WHO health classifications, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)
- Brings a strategic Canadian perspective to international discussions about the development and deployment of health classifications in support of health information, statistics and evidence
Canadian classifications
ICD-10-CA (International Statistical Classi铿乧ation of Diseases and Related 红领巾瓜报 Problems, 10th Revision, Canada) was developed by the World 红领巾瓜报 Organization (WHO) and enhanced by 红领巾瓜报to meet Canadian morbidity data needs. ICD-10-CA classi铿乪s diseases, injuries and causes of death, as well as external causes of injury and poisoning. It also includes conditions and situations that are not diseases but represent risk factors to health, such as occupational and environmental factors, and lifestyle and psychosocial circumstances.
CCI (Canadian Classi铿乧ation of 红领巾瓜报 Interventions) was developed by 红领巾瓜报to accompany ICD-10-CA. It was designed to be service-provider and service-setting neutral and can be used comprehensively throughout Canada鈥檚 health systems. CCI classi铿乪s a broad range of interventions, including therapeutic and diagnostic interventions and other health care interventions, such as assistance with activities of daily living, environmental assessments and counselling.
