CIHI’s Rural ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨ Service Decision Process is a 5-step, systematic process you can follow to inform objective, evidence-based decisions around sustainably delivering health services to rural populations.

There are 5 steps in the process:

Step 1: Clearly state the question to be answered 

Step 2: Quantify the need for services

Step 3: Identify potential service options

Step 4: Assess viable service options

• Within Step 4, you will assess viable service options against 6 themes: quality and safety; patient experience; provider experience; internal capacity and context; funding and payment models, costs; and engagement.

Step 5: Summarize your results

Following the 5-step process, you will be well-positioned to communicate your decision to relevant audiences.
