> > Tracy Johnson, Director of ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨ System Analysis and Emerging Issues, CIHI: 3 out of 5 Canadian seniors surveyed reported they waited at least 4 weeks for a specialist visit, the highest figure among 11 Commonwealth Fund countries. The Commonwealth Fund survey is an international survey of 11 countries that is completed annually.

In the Commonwealth Fund survey, 41% of seniors reported waiting at least 4 weeks for a specialist appointment.

3 times more Canadian seniors waited at least a month for a specialist appointment compared to Commonwealth Fund countries like the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Adequate care requires timely access and strong communication between care providers. Two-way communication between specialists and primary care providers is improving in Canada, when compared to The Commonwealth Fund survey 3 years ago.
