Organ donation, transplantation and dialysis: Overview
Despite significant advances in organ donation and transplantation (ODT) practices in Canada, the need for life-saving organ transplants continues to grow and exceed the availability of donated organs across the country.
Canadian Organ Replacement Register (CORR)
CIHI’s Canadian Organ Replacement Register (CORR) is the existing national database that collects data and reports statistics to track long-term trends for dialysis, ODT and wait-list statistics. CORR currently collects data from dialysis programs, transplant programs and organ donation organizations to track patients from their first treatment for end-stage organ failure (dialysis or transplantation) to their death.
Using this data, CORR produces in-depth reports and analyses on long-term trends for organ transplantation, organ donation and dialysis in Canada. This pan-Canadian comparative data can be used to enhance treatment, patient care and research.
Canadian Organ Donation and Transplantation Data System (CanODT)
ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨and Canada ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨ Infoway are co-leading a multi-year project funded by ºìÁì½í¹Ï±¨ Canada to develop a modernized pan-Canadian ODT data and performance reporting system. The project aims to support improvements in ODT access, care and outcomes across Canada. Project goals and outcomes include the deployment of technology solutions, system integrations, pan-Canadian data standards, indicators, system-level performance reporting and — in fall 2023 — the launch of the Canadian ODT Data System (CanODT). Project activities and outcomes will be achieved through collaborations with provincial and territorial ministries of health, health organizations, clinicians, researchers, patients, families, donors and the ODT community.
